What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® treatment utilizes transparent aligners to move the teeth into place without metal wires or brackets.
Beginning Invisalign® treatment involves taking virtual dental impressions with the iTero scanner, and taking detailed intra oral photographs. This eliminates the need for using messy uncomfortable putty impressions.
The aligners are made by the Invisalign company who follows the exact specifications that Dr. Horwitz has outlined in a detailed prescription. Using 3-D controls in the software, Dr. Horwitz refines the prescription in order to assure that the Invisalign aligners will move your teeth effectively and efficiently into the desired positions.
Advantages of Invisalign®
Esthetics: Aligners are nearly invisible when worn, so they are like your own secret weapon to correct crowding.
Removable: Since they are removable, they allow for easier access to oral hygiene. Dentists and hygienists can clean and examine your teeth without having to navigate wires and brackets. You can remove them to eat or drink, so there are no food restrictions.
Comfort: Aligners are smooth and comfortable to wear. There is no discomfort from rough brackets or appliances or poking wires. There are no eating restrictions.
Convenience: No emergencies from broken brackets, loose appliances, or poking wires. There are fewer office visits and the visits are shorter.
How does Invisalign® work?
You wear each set of aligners for approximately 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each appliance with the next in the prescribed series, your teeth will incrementally move, until they have straightened into the final positions that Dr. Horwitz has prescribed. The number of aligners will vary from patient to patient depending on the amount of correction each patient requires.
